12:1 Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge. Lit. “loving discipline, loving knowledge.” The form of this proverb, like 13:3 and 14:2, groups things that belong together without explicitly stating the relationship. These are then contrasted with their opposites. The wise person accepts correction and consequently grows wiser, but the one who cannot accept criticism goes nowhere.
