5:20 Why. The note of lament is struck again. There is no easy exit from the pain that has been expressed; but the affirmation of God’s sovereignty is made in the midst of that pain (v. 19). The logic of vv. 19, 20 is paralleled in Ps. 89, vv. 1–37 praising God’s sovereignty and vv. 38–51 asking “How long” (Ps. 89:46).
