18:16–33 The Lord’s promise of a miraculous offspring anticipated that Abraham would become a great and powerful nation to bless the earth. Such a nation had to learn justice, beginning with its father, Abraham (vv. 17–19). The Lord demonstrated His justice to Abraham in the judgment upon the wicked cities of Sodom and Gomorrah (vv. 20–33). God investigated the accusations thoroughly (vv. 20–21; 11:5 note); even if there had been ten righteous people He would have spared the cities (v. 32).
