13:1–5 The caution against a false prophet is given to emphasize that even though a prophet seems to carry impressive credentials, the theological test is still crucial. No true prophet could possibly advance a false religion, since Israel’s God is the true and only God. All other gods are the creations of men. Those who follow them and worship them must be destroyed from Israel.
