1:28 the Anakim. The name Anak appears in Egyptian texts of the early second millennium as the name of a ruler in Palestine. It probably is related to the biblical Anak whose descendants lived in Hebron (Num. 13:22). They were taller than the Israelites and were feared for their military prowess. Joshua conquered them, and their remnants merged with the Philistines (Josh. 12:21, 22).
