Maacah, Maachah

Maacah, Maachah [Mā'acah, Mā'a chah]—compression or oppression.

  1. Son of Nahor, Abraham’s brother (Gen. 22:24).
  2. A king of Maachah (2 Sam. 10:6).
  3. The father of Achish, king of Gath in Solomon’s time (1 Kings 2:39).
  4. The father of Hanan, one of David’s mighty men (1 Chron. 11:43).
  5. The father of Shephatiah, ruler of the Simeonites in David’s time (1 Chron. 27:16). Also the name of several women (see 2 Sam. 3:3; 1 Chron. 2:48; 3:2; 8:29; 2 Chron. 11:21, 22; 15:16), and the name of a Syrian city (2 Sam. 10:8).
