Jether, Jethro [Jē'thûr,Jĕth'rō]—abundance, excellence or pre-eminent.

1. The first-born son of Gideon and father of Amasa, Absalom’s commander-in-chief (Judg 8:20; 1 Kings 2:5).
2. A son of Jerahmeel, son of Hezron (1 Chron. 2:32). He died childless.
3. An Ishmaelite, the father of David’s nephew, Amasa (1 Kings 2:5, 32).
4. A son of Ezra, and a descendant of Caleb the spy (1 Chron. 4:17).
5. A descendant of Asher (1 Chron. 7:38).
