Eber

Eber [Ē'bûr]—a shoot.

  1. A descendant of Shem through Arphaxad, and the progenitor of various peoples (Gen. 10:21-25; 11:14-17; 1 Chron. 1:18-25).
  2. The head of a family in Gad (1 Chron. 5:13).
  3. A son of Elpaal a Benjamite (1 Chron. 8:12).
  4. A son of Shashak a Benjamite (1 Chron. 8:22).
  5. A priest, head of the father’s house of Amok in the days of the high priest, Joiakim (Neh. 12:20). Name is also used of the descendants of Eber (Num. 24:24) (No. 1). Heber is another spelling.
