Amalek [Ăm'alĕk]—warlike or dweller in the vale. Son of Eliphaz and grandson of Esau and founder of a tribal family known as the Amalekites (Gen. 36:12, 16; Exod. 17; 1 Chron. 1:36). Amalek appears to have separated from his brethren and true to his name, became the head of a warlike tribe. Balaam described him as “the first of the nations” (Num. 24:20).
