¹¹ For no one can lay any other foundation^(A) than what has been laid down. That foundation is Jesus Christ. ¹² If anyone builds on that foundation with gold, silver,^(B) costly stones,^(C) wood, hay, or straw, ¹³ each one’s work will become obvious, for the day^[a] will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire;^(D) the fire will test the quality of each one’s work.^{(E) 14} If anyone’s work that he has built survives, he will receive a reward. ¹⁵ If anyone’s work is burned up, it will be lost, but he will be saved;^(F) yet it will be like an escape through fire.^[b](G)

² But who can endure the day of His coming? And who will be able to stand when He appears?^(A) For He will be like a refiner’s fire^(B) and like cleansing lye.^{(C) 3} He will be like a refiner and purifier of silver; He will purify the sons of Levi and refine them like gold and silver.^(D) Then they will present offerings to the Lord in righteousness.

⁷ so that the genuineness of your faith^(A)—more valuable than gold, which perishes though refined by fire^(B)—may result^(C) in^[a] praise, glory, and honor^(D) at the revelation of Jesus Christ.^(E)
