8 The men[a] who were chosen[b] took supplies[c] and their trumpets. Gideon[d] sent all the men of Israel back to their homes;[e] he kept only 300 men. Now the Midianites[f] were camped down below[g] in the valley.

9 That night the Lord said to Gideon,[h] “Get up! Attack[i] the camp, for I am handing it over to you.[j] 10 But if you are afraid to attack, go down to the camp with Purah your servant
