For You have (A)abandoned Your people, the house of Jacob,
Because they are filled with influences from the east,
And they are soothsayers (B)like the Philistines,
And they (C)strike bargains with the children of foreigners.

14 And they will (A)swoop down on the slopes of the Philistines on the (B)west;
Together they will (C)plunder the sons of the east;
[a]They will stretch out their hands over (D)Edom and (E)Moab,
And the sons of Ammon [b]will obey them.

Word Against Philistia

47 That which came as the word of Yahweh to Jeremiah the prophet concerning the (A)Philistines, before Pharaoh struck down (B)Gaza. Thus says Yahweh:

“Behold, waters are going to rise from (C)the north
And become an overflowing torrent,
And (D)overflow the land as well as its fullness,
The city and those who inhabit it;
And the men will (E)cry out,
And every inhabitant of the land will wail.
Because of the noise of the [a](F)galloping hoofs of his [b]valiant steeds,
The quaking of his chariots, and the tumult of his wheels,
The fathers have not turned back for their children,
Because of the limpness of their hands,
On account of the day that is coming
To (G)destroy all the Philistines,
To cut off from (H)Tyre and Sidon
Every ally that is left;
For Yahweh is going to destroy the Philistines,
The remnant of the coastland of (I)Caphtor.
(J)Baldness has come upon Gaza;
(K)Ashkelon has been ruined.
O remnant of their valley,
How long will you (L)gash yourself?
Ah, (M)sword of Yahweh,
How long will you not be quiet?
Withdraw into your sheath;
[c]Be at rest and stay still.
How can [d]it be quiet?
Yahweh has (N)given it a command;
Against Ashkelon and against the seacoast—
There He has (O)assigned it.”

Prophesy Against Philistia

15 ‘Thus says Lord Yahweh, “Because the Philistines have acted in (A)revenge and have taken vengeance with scorn of soul to bring ruin with everlasting enmity,” 16 therefore thus says Lord Yahweh, “Behold, I will (B)stretch out My hand against the Philistines and cut off the (C)Cherethites and cause the remnant of the seacoast to perish. 17 So I will execute great vengeance on them with wrathful reproofs; and they will (D)know that I am Yahweh when I lay My vengeance on them.”’”

Moreover, what are you to Me, O (A)Tyre, Sidon, and all the regions of (B)Philistia? Are you rendering Me a recompense? But if you do recompense Me, swiftly and speedily I will (C)return your recompense on your head. Since you have (D)taken My silver and My gold, brought My desirable [a]treasures to your temples, and sold the (E)sons of Judah and the sons of Jerusalem to the sons of the [b]Greeks in order to remove them far from their borders, behold, I am going to (F)rouse them from the place where you have sold them and return your recompense on your head. Also I will (G)sell your sons and your daughters into the hand of the sons of Judah, and they will sell them to the (H)Sabeans, to a distant nation,” for Yahweh has spoken.

Thus says Yahweh,

“For three transgressions of (A)Gaza and for four
I will not turn back its punishment
Because they took away into exile the whole community of exiles
To (B)deliver it up to Edom.
So I will send fire upon the wall of Gaza,
And it will consume her citadels.
I will also cut off the inhabitant from (C)Ashdod
And him who holds the scepter from (D)Ashkelon;
I will even turn My hand against Ekron,
And the remnant of the (E)Philistines will perish,”
Says Lord Yahweh.

For (A)Gaza will be [a]forsaken
And Ashkelon a desolation;
(B)Ashdod will be driven out at noon,
And (C)Ekron will be uprooted.
Woe to the inhabitants of the seacoast,
The nation of the [b](D)Cherethites!
The word of Yahweh is (E)against you,
O (F)Canaan, land of the Philistines;
And I will (G)make you perish
So that there will be (H)no inhabitant.
So the seacoast will be (I)pastures,
With [c]caves for shepherds and folds for flocks.
And the coast will be
For the (J)remnant of the house of Judah;
They will (K)feed upon it.
In the houses of Ashkelon they will lie down at evening;
For Yahweh their God will (L)care for them
And (M)restore their fortune.

Ashkelon will see it and be afraid.
Gaza too will writhe in great pain;
Also Ekron, for her hope has been put to shame.
Moreover, the king will perish from Gaza,
And Ashkelon will not be inhabited.
And those of illegitimate birth will inhabit (A)Ashdod,
And I will cut off the pride of the Philistines.
And I will remove their blood from their mouth
And their detestable things from between their teeth.
Then they also will be a remnant for our God,
And be like a [a]clan in Judah,
And Ekron like a Jebusite.
